: My dad is a outstanding artist and has a professional airbrush set. I am thinking of asking him to airbrush my Tippmann 98 Sniper. Is this a bad idea? I was just going to get some enamal paint or paint made for "real" guns and bows and have him use that. I realize that it wont be the same as getting it professionally anodized but is this a smart move and is there a process I should follow? Process is the same for any painting metal. You need to prep the materials first. That probably means stripping off the stock paint, and painting on a primer coat, just to make sure you don't have a problem with the factory paint reacting with your paint. Enamels are the way to go, with a protective clearcoat or two on top of the artwork to protect it. Keep in mind paint will be subject to scratching or chipping, but since the M98 is painted to start with you're already in that boat. Note the M98 body is made of cast metal, and since the material blend varies through the casting, it is considered a bad idea to anodize cast parts. In general they don't take anodizing well. Painting is the best way to protect and beautify them. See you on the field,
