Weird metal piece

I was inspecting the front end of my autococker while timing it today and noticed a metal cylinder about the size of the ram sitting in between the ram and the 4 way. It looks and feels like steel. It also has an allen screw adjustment on the front, which appears to have teflon tape wrapped around the threads that are showing. Anyone have any ideas about what it is? Thanks!

Steve
