First things first --- Before you send the golf cart on a one-way transformation, check out the insurance situation in your area.

Having a nice tank sucks when you can't afford an extra $100 per game to use it.

Second thing; you already have under control. Use the vehicle's chassis and running gear in it's present configuration. Don't try to build a new suspension or try major frame modifications.

Other notable points--

Plan the main gun/turret into the body before building too far. The ease of operation and functionality of that cannon keeps you on the field.

Keep it LIGHT. It is very easy to build too much weight into the body. 1/4" plywood stops paint just fine. An overburdened and top-heavy chassis becomes a headache when conditions are less than perfect.

NET, NET, NET, Don't even think of using clear plastic for windows. Install heavy pool screen properly and it will return fire for you.

Make sure you can see out of it; those demo guys are downright sneaky and will not hesitate to paint up you back end.

There are plenty of golf cart tanks out there. Take notes and make sketches at the next scenario game. You will get an idea of what will(and won't) work inside that platform. Six people, no, Driver, Shotgun, and Cannon Operator/Tail gunner, yes

Don't build a box, give it some style. We alredy have enough rolling rectangles.

Stay out of Florida until you are ready to play with the big dogs! :)
