: I've got a friend whose philosophy is "if it doesn't fit, buy another barrel," and he's been giving me an earful for not running out and buying a Boomstick for my Phantom (even though I haven't even got my gun yet!)

I have an 8" and a 14" stock aluminum barrel. Aside from the bore size matter that the rings have fixed, I've never had barrel envy. There's no way I'd spend Boomstick money now. I also have a Nickel 11", but I usually either want my gun set up to be super compact or super effecient/quiet, so it doesn't see much action.

Out of curiosity, does this guy who wants you to buy a Boomy shoot a Cocker, wear this year's Dye/JT jersey and carry a 4 pack? Automatically buying a $100+ barrel for a new gun smells like rich tourney player that doesn't really know their tech to me.

Personally, if I ever go back to Semi, I'm getting a Phantom barrel rethreaded for the gun I buy.

: I'm ordering a 14" nickel barrel along with my regular Phantom and barrel. (I know it would be cheaper just to start off with the nickel barrel period, but I' ve fallen victim to vanity and want to have a barrel to match the color scheme of the marker.) With those two, I should be good to go.

To be honest, that's another reason the Nickel collects dust. A silver anno VSC w/ clear doohickies is just too pretty to consciously put an off-colored barrel on. I've actually had a few of the local tournament types with Dark Angels admit that it's a darn pretty gun. I haven't noticed much for advantages with the Nickle myself, but there's people out there that swear by it.
