filling nitro tank from scuba tank

I have been using Co2 for a long time. I recently bought a steel nitro tank. It came with about 2200psi of pressure in it. I shot it down to about 900 psi and put it away while I tried to get a scuba tank. I got the scuba tank and I filled my steel nitro tank from the scuba. I noticed while I was filling it that it became warm to my touch. I thought this was strange because I had the scuba tank in my unheated garage and it was cold to the touch. When I took the steel tank off of the scuba tank it had been filled to about 2200psi. I then took it inside my house and put it in my closet. When the weekend came I took it out and noticed the pressure was zero. I put about 1000psi back in it to see where it was leaking from and I found it was coming directly out of the nipple. Do I just get a new nipple for it? I don't know what the tank had in it to begin with. If it was Nitro and I filled it with HPA can that cause a problem. Why did it get warm to my touch even though both the scuba tank and nitro tank were both cold to my touch to begin with. Can I change the nipple myself or is it more complicated than that?
